Metro Fruit and Veggie Coalition

“The mission of the Metro Fruit and Veggie Coalition is to increase fruit and vegetable consumption in the Metro area.”

The Coalition forges working relationships with key Metro area government agencies, private sector and non-profit groups in order to leverage resources and mobilize professionals to promote an increase in daily consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Who:

The Coalition includes representatives from health departments, Women, Infant and Children Program, and Oregon State University Extension Service in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington Counties. The Coalition also includes representation from nutrition services from most of the tri-county school districts and several hospital systems and health insurers. Farmers markets are represented as well as non-profit and business organizations.

What:

The Metro Fruit and Veggie Coalition strives to promote this mission by:

  1. Coordinating and creating connections between Coalition members
  2. Supporting strategies in A Healthy Active Oregon: Statewide Physical Activity and Nutrition Plan 2007-2012
  3. Comprehensively promoting Fruits & Veggies—More Matters™  

The Coalition’s three key intervention working groups include:

  1. Inventory and Assessment of Fruit and Veggie promotion in Metro area,
  2. Promotion of Fruits & Veggies—More Matters™
  3. Advancement of healthy nutrition in workplace policy. 

When:

Second Friday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September, and November 2008)
